Woman Who Is 9 Months Pregnant Runs a 5:25-Minute Mile and Stuns the Internet

On social media, everyone who is even remotely connected to the world of running is astonished by a woman who has run an impressive 5:35-minute mile. That’s five minutes and 35 seconds, for folks who aren’t necessarily connected to the terminology of the runner’s world. Running a mile at that speed is an accomplishment for anyone, but what makes this woman’s accomplishment so astonishing is that she is nine months pregnant. Five days ago, a TikTok user named Mike Myler shared a video of his wife, 28-year-old Makenna Myler. In the video, Makenna appears to run a mile in less than five and a half minutes.

In an interview with BuzzFeed, Makenna said that the time was 100% accurate and legitimate. She added that she has been running five to six times a week throughout her entire pregnancy. A dedicated runner, the woman says that she “cut back on my mileage a lot and have been a lot slower,” but she has been extremely particular with her strength training to ensure that the added weight of pregnancy and her pelvic shift don’t cause any injury. Makenna loves running and was concerned that pregnancy might impact her love of running. Because of this, her husband offered her a bet of sorts.

Mike said that he would give his wife $100 if she could break an eight-minute mile while she was nine months pregnant. The thing is before she became pregnant, Makenna could run the distance of a mile in about seven minutes, so her pregnancy running game is better than before pregnancy, which is astonishing. The TikTok video that Mike posted has received more than 3.4 million views in the first five days after it was posted. People in the comments expressed their astonishment over Makenna’s accomplishment. In the BuzzFeed interview, Makenna said that her first doctor encouraged her because he had experience dealing with elite athletes.

The second doctor asked her to be cautious, she said. Ultrasounds show a perfectly healthy baby, Makenna says. The U.K.’s National Health Service says that women can continue with their normal exercise even after they become pregnant, with the exception of scuba diving, hot yoga, contact sports, and exercise at heights more than 2,500m above sea level.
